Week 2
WEEK 2
What did you learn this week?
This week learned the 8 characteristics of a living thing. It's been so long since learning these basic facts but it was a good refresher and if I'm being honest I don't think I really knew that there were 8. I also learned about photosynthesis again, and how if we didn't have photosynthesis we wouldn't be able to live.
How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
From what I learned from the reading reflection and lab this week is that it is important to engage our students in problem-solving, explaining their thinking, and connecting it to their real worlds. By do this through interactive activities as simple as the posters we made in the lab or through experiments.
Which parts did you find clear and which were confusing?
What I found clear was that plants have to go through photosynthesis to live. That is how they get energy, which is their source of food, and that they release oxygen into the air. One thing that I was confused about was whether photosynthesis only happens in green plants? Also, do animals and humans go through photosynthesis, but it's called something different?
Lab Photo 1/29/25
In Lab this week we created a chart of the 8 characteristics of a living thing: Cellular Composition, Homeostasis, Genetics + Heredity, Movement, Metabolism, Growth + Change, Response to Stimuli, and Reproduction. For something to be a living thing it needs to process these characteristics. We also learned about Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning.
Not pictured is the start of our lental seed going through germination.
